What Is Implant Dentistry?

Implant dentistry serves to help patients regain their quality of life by restoring their lost or damaged teeth. Dental implants look and feel just like real teeth, serving as permanent replacements. Unlike dentures, implants stay in your mouth at all times.

Not only will your smile look complete, but you will also be able to enjoy a wider variety of foods. Some patients are even able to speak more clearly after implant dentistry.

How It Works

Patients getting dental implants will need at least two surgeries. The first surgical procedure involves implanting metal posts in your jawbone. These posts stay hidden under your gum line until your second surgery. Following your first surgery, you will need to heal for 3 to 6 months.

When you are fully healed, Dr. Idriss will have you come back for your final surgical procedure. During this time, your gums will be safely lifted to expose the metal posts. Then, special extension pieces are attached to the metal posts.

It is in these extensions that your dental implants are permanently affixed. Following another healing process – one that is much shorter – you will be able to enjoy the full benefits of your new dental implants.

Regardless of whether you are missing one tooth or all of them, dental implants can restore as few or as many as you need. If this sounds like something you are interested in, please call The Smile Designer today.
